House Committee Introduces Comprehensive Climate Legislation

This week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee Democrats introduced major legislation to address climate change. The legislation, called the Clean Future Act, aims to have the U.S. achieve net zero greenhouse gas pollution by 2050, with an interim goal of cutting GHG emissions by 50 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.

The legislation established national targets as well as economic sector specific targets for GHG emissions reductions, while establishing programs and authorities to meet emissions targets. The Energy and Commerce Committee has provided a brief bill summary, as well as a section-by-section description.
