Response to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute on the Science of Engagement
The American Thoracic Society responded to a Request for Information from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute on the potential development of a Science of Engagement funding initiative. The Science of Engagement is the systematic study of methods for and outcomes of engagement to inform high quality, patient-centered research. Expanded funding by PCORI for the Science of Engagement could address high-priority knowledge gaps on approaches for effectively engaging diverse stakeholders throughout the research process.
The comments described the importance of understanding and removing systematic barriers that determine whether historically under-represented populations can effectively engage in research studies.
