ATS Sends Letter to FDA Urging Nicotine Product Standard for All Tobacco Products

The ATS joined the American Lung Association in a letter to the FDA Center for Tobacco Products urging the agency to develop nicotine product standards for all tobacco products. The Agency has announced its intention to issue a proposed low-nicotine product standard to make combustible cigarettes non-addictive. Research has shown that lowering the nicotine level in combustible cigarettes could both increase quit attempts and reduce their addictive potential. However, lowering the nicotine content in combustible cigarettes without creating a nicotine limit on other tobacco products will likely push tobacco users and youth experimenting with tobacco use to products with higher nicotine levels.
