ATS Supports EPA’s Decision to Regulate Mercury & Air Toxics from Power Plants
In related activity this week, ATS member Erika Moseson, MD, member of the ATS Environmental Health Policy Committee, spoke at an EPA public hearing in support of EPA’s proposed “necessary and appropriate” finding regarding the regulation of mercury and air toxic emissions from power plants. The Biden EPA issued a proposed finding that it is appropriate and necessary for the agency to regulate mercury and air toxic emissions from power plants.
The Biden Administration action revokes the Trump Administration finding that it was not necessary or appropriate for the EPA to regulate mercury and air toxic emissions from power plants. The Trump Administration decision undermined the legal authority of a currently fully implemented Mercury and Air Toxics rule that resulted in a 91 percent reduction in mercury emissions from power plants from 2010 to 2020.
