Congressional Leaders Make Progress on FY22 Spending Bills
It’s been reported that Congressional leaders had a “breakthrough” in reaching an agreement on defense and non-defense spending programs for fiscal year 2022. For several months, Congress had been at an impasse on appropriations bills for the current fiscal year. The federal government has been operating on a series of continuing resolutions that maintain spending at fiscal year 2021 spending levels. With the establishment of topline spending levels, it is hoped Congress will be able to quickly resolve remaining spending issues and complete the FY22 spending bills within the next couple of weeks. At stake are funding increases for health, science and environment programs at NIH, CDC, EPA and VA.
