House Appropriations Committee Moves Other Key Spending Bills
In June, the House Appropriations Committee made progress on other appropriations bills that fund programs of interest to ATS members. Below is a brief summary of key funding bills:
Interior and Environment:
The subcommittee provided $11.5 billion for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an increase of $2 billion over FY 2022. Included in the EPA funding is $150 million for Diesel Emissions Reduction grants, an increase of $58 million over FY 2022; $1.31 billion for Superfund, an increase of $81 million over FY 2022; $301 million for Environmental Justice activities, an increase of $201 over 2022; $6.43 billion for Wildland Fire Management (WFM) an increase of $762.2 million over FY 2022.
Agriculture- FDA:
The subcommittee provided $3.645 billion in discretionary funding for the Food and Drug Administration, an increase of $341 million over FY 2022. Within this total, the Committee provides a targeted increase of $64 million for the opioid crisis, medical supply chain surveillance, drug safety surveillance and oversight.
Military Construction – Veterans Affairs:
The subcommittee provided $926 million for the VA Medical and Prosthetic Research program, an increase of $44 million over FY 2022.
The ATS will continue to monitor all the relevant appropriations bills and advocate for funding for research and public health programs.
