ATS Joins Public Health Community in Request for Tobacco Control Funding
Last week, the ATS joined the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and over 30 other medical and public health organizations to urge Congress to provide robust funding for Centers for the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) program at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The letter urge Congress to provide $63.5 million funding to allow OSH to further their efforts towards reducing cigarette use, in particular curbing youth e-cigarette use. While OSH did receive a small funding increase last year, the need for effective nicotine prevention programs – particularly targeted to reduce youth vaping – is significant. The ATS will continue to work with our partners to pressure Congress to provided needed funding for CDC tobacco control programs.
